Isolated and the oldest mountain range of Romania

Why Macin mountain?

  1. The only national park in the Dobrudja area
  2. Breeding raptors include Short-toed Eagle, Booted Eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Levant Sparrowhawk and Saker Falcon.
  3. An important migration hotspot especially for raptors in autumn. They use these mountains as a stopover roosting site and sometimes hundreds of passage raptors can be seen in September.
  4. On passage vultures, Pallid Harrier and Steppe Eagle is regularly seen
  5. Only place in Europe where steppe habitats coexist with Balkanic and Submediterranean forests
  6. There are up to four species of wheatears breeding – Common, Isabelline, Pied and Black-eared.
  7. Other notable breeders include White-backed Woodpecker, Red-rumped Swallow, Rufous-tailed Rock-Thrush, Woodchat Shirke, Sombre Tit and Ortolan Bunting
  8. This national park has one of the richest and most interesting fauna and flora in Romania including numerous endemic plants and insects
  9. Lovely landscape with rocky (granite) hills, crenulated rocky peaks due to the volcanic after works
  10. Very close proximity to the Danube Delta
