Tour information

During years of operation we realized the need of a pure Danube Delta Photo Tour in our well known Delta trails in a `sakertours` style. After many years of experience we also finally decided what the best period to run such a tour is (late June and early July). We will be based in a single accommodation in the middle of the Delta to ensure a relaxing but intensive experience in this fantastic area! Those who have been with us in this region before on our classic tour now can return for an only-delta photography. Every day we will use our superb purpose built photo boat with two Sakertours guides (photo guide + boat driver)! From 2017 we also offer the possibility of using a floating hides for some subjects – you can just ‘jump off’ the photo-boat for a few hours to stalk your own birds!
If you wish to spend a week with your camera in the Danube Delta water world this is the right tour for you!

Tour starting and ending time: It is important to book your flight according to the official starting and ending times of the tour! Our bus and guide will be waiting all participants in the Otopeni Airport at Bucharest. Please make sure you can reach the starting point at 14:00 on the tour starting date! If you wish to arrive earlier to Bucharest our office can help you to book accommodation and logistics. However if you arrive early you need to make your way to the airport for the meeting time. In some cases we can pick up clients from the nearby airport hotels (please check with our office). Also very important that the tour only ends at 13:00 on the last day so please do not book flights out of Bucharest earlier than 16:00 on the last day!

Timing: Recommended period between May and July

Duration: 7 days (6 nights)

Logistics: The photo day usually starts at 04.30 with a coffee or tea and some morning biscuits, than the photo boat will be ready for the action for the next 5-6 hours. After the morning session photographers can have breakfast and time to download pictures and rest. A light lunch will be served at 14.00 PM than from 15.30 the afternoon photo session starts and will last until sunset.

Recommended equipment: This tour will offer you very diverse photographing opportunities. Therefore, we suggest that you bring along lenses from fish-eye and wide angle to 300mm and 500mm ones.

Expected number of birds species photographed on this tour: 30-40 species

What to bring: torch, binocular, tripod, insect repellent, waterproof and/or slipping proof sandals or slippers, wind proof clothing for the fast boat rides, sun block and hat.

We are using a good 4 star Hotel in the Danube Delta. Road transport is by air-conditioned minibus and roads are generally very good.

Walking: The walking effort is mostly very easy and much reduced throughout the tour.

Climate: In June-July most days are warm, dry and sunny and temperature is up to 30C. We will focus on the early morning and late afternoon hours however so it will not be inconvenient.
